This is a summer of change for PGA Head Professional Jimmy Biggs and the staff at Crow Creek Golf Club.  The course is closed for the summer as they redo the putting surfaces on the greens.  They are also doing some renovation of their fantastic clubhouse as well.  So we thought we would check in on Jimmy on this edition of Tee It Up Grand Strand to see exactly what he is doing to keep himself busy during the renovations.  How is he passing his time?

“Really the most important thing is to keep your head on a swivel and be really concerned with the needs of the customers” says Biggs.  “It is necessary to try to maintain a professional work place even though things are not business as usual.  We can actually help golfers by making them aware of the status of the golf course and by looking to the fall and setting tee times and scheduling outings for when we open back up in October.”

If all goes according to plan the target date to re-open Crow Creek is Monday, October 2nd.  Over the past 17 years the course has been open the bent grass on the greens has slowly been invaded by the surrounding Bermuda grass.  The management has chosen a new strain of bent grass that is more heat tolerant and heals ball marks quicker than the original grass on the putting surfaces.  Crow Creek has built a reputation on providing a unique and high quality golf experience and by making this change during the summer they plan to “raise the bar” so to speak and have an even better produce for golfers when they re-open in October.

Crow Creek was originally designed by Rick Robbins, a former Jack Nicklaus design associate.  Carved a magnificent design out of the charming southern countryside in Brunswick County, North Carolina.  The towering Carolina pines along with the numerous lakes found all along the golf course will still be there along with the majestic wildlife that lives along the course.  There are no major design changes with this process.  It will be fresher and greener than ever this fall when we all head back to see Jimmy and the gang to experience a round of golf like none other when Crow Creek re-opens on October 2nd.
