We take a look at what is going on this spring at Diamondback Golf Club at Woodland Valley on this edition of Tee It Up Grand Strand. Situated in the lowcountry woodlands just outside of North Myrtle Beach in the quiet community of Loris, Diamondback is a modern Russell Breeden design. This is a Par 72 layout measuring 6928 yards from the back teeing ground. The main feature of this beautiful and challenging layout is the strategically placed bunkers and lakes. The add an element of fun and shot making to the round of golf.
As we go through what has been a fantastic spring here along the Grand Strand we are not surprised at all to find that Diamonback is in amazing condition from tee to green. The Jensen Ultra Dwarf greens are rolling at an incredibly smooth and consistent pace right now. They have a great combination of being very receptive to approach shots and great response to putted balls as well. If putts are missed it is certainly not the fault of the putting surface this spring.
Visiting golfers have been filling up the course and raving about it all spring season long. The holes wind in and out of heavy wooded areas, through wetlands and around ponds and streams. Golfers certainly have the opportunity to play several types of shots with a variety of views in the background. The experience is great. It is calm and quiet as the course is located away from the hustle and bustle of the beach traffic. The Diamondback experience is unlike any other found at any golf course in the Myrtle Beach area. These are the things that the tourist golfers have enjoyed the most. That and the amazing customer service and welcoming vibes from the staff.
General Manager, Patrick Wilkenson and his outstanding staff take great pride in how they treat each and every golfer that walks through the clubhouse doors. It all starts the moment golfers drive up to the bag drop. Once they head into the clubhouse they are greeted warmly by the golf shop staff and the ladies in the bar and grill area or “The Snake Pit” as it is affectionately called. Golfers cannot help but be excited to hit the course after the treatment they receive in the clubhouse.
