We visit our friends at River Oaks Golf Plantation on this edition of Tee It Up Grand Strand. PGA Head Professional and General Manager Scott Taylor shares with us some very exciting news for his staff. Today he is introducing his new golf course superindendent, Jeff Wetzel. Jeff has been around the beach for many years working on golf courses. Now he brings his experience to River Oaks.
This Gene Hamm and Tom Jackson 27-hole facility now has a new leader on the course. The addition of Wetzel is simply another step in the right direction for River Oaks. Since 2007 the management has been making changes to improve the quality of the golf course and the playing experience for the visiting golfers. A new superintendent is a positive for Scott and his staff.
“Jeff and I went to high school together” says Scott Taylor. “We have developed a friendship right off the bat. We are excited to have him part of the family here at River Oaks. We have come a long way in the last six years from when the new ownership took over and we are excited for Jeff to take us to the next level.”
Now that fall golf season is here on the Grand Strand, it will be time for the golf courses to get themselves ready for the cooler weather that is on the way. River Oaks, like most of the golf courses in the area will be over-seeding its fairways and tee boxes in the next few weeks. The winter rye grass will grow in and overtake the bermuda and allow the golf course to still look green and lush through the winter. Wetzel and his staff will make this a seamless transition so that the golfers will hardly notice the difference.
There are still tee times available. Call the pro shop at 843-236-2222 or book online at www.riveroaksgolfplantation.com. Golfers can take a virtual tour of the three nines on the site as well. Head Pro, Scotty Taylor gives shot by shot instruction on how to play each hole. This is a unique and great way to get some inside knowledge that will help lower scores on the card and more fun on the course.
