On this edition of Tee It Up Grand Strand we are going to take a look at a golf course on the south end of the beach that does not get near the attention that it should.  The International Club located in Murrells Inlet just 10 minutes south of Myrtle Beach International Airport is a great track.  It is amazing that more people are not talking about this golf course.  It has just about everything a golfer could want in a course when visiting the Golf Capital of the World.

This William Byrd design opened for play in 2000.  It is tucked away in a forest of hardwoods and pines.  This tree lined beauty also includes finger lakes that are fed by underground streams.  There are also pristine wetlands around the course that provide incredible beauty and also creates the need for some shotmaking skill as golfers navigate them as they make their way around the course.  This is just the beginning of what makes the International Club a truly “hidden gem” on the Grand Strand.

Arriving at the course, golfers are greeting by a 6400 square foot European-like clubhouse that has a large bar and dining area complete with several televisions and a view of the putting green behind the clubhouse.  The golf shop contains plenty of quality merchandise so players can get a few souvenirs to help them remember the experience of the day.

The International Club boasts a first rate practice facility.  Before heading to the first tee golfers can take advantage of one of the largest putting greens in the area as well as huge driving range complete with short game and bunker practice area.  Make sure to take advantage of this to be ready for the challenge that awaits out on the course.

The par 72 layout has 5 sets of tees that make the course range from just over 4800 yards to just under 6900.  Pick a yardage that suits and tee it up!  Carolina pines line most of the fairways, so take care off the tee.  The finely manicured fairways are a pure joy to play on.  Club selection into the green complexes is important as many of the greens are either elevated or protected by bunkers.  Some of them have both.

The putting surfaces at the International Club are as good as can be found in the Myrtle Beach area. In fact, General Manager, Doug Donner, will put his greens up against anyone’s on the beach.  That is a strong statement!
